- PT. Hanwha Life Insurance Indonesia Hanwha Life Indonesia Collaborates With Jakarta Government to Launch Family Service Center
Hanwha Life Insurance Indonesia has come together with local organizations to build the Family Service Center, also known as the Pusat Pelayanan Kelurga (PUSPA), for the people of Jakarta. PUSPA is a center providing digital-based, one-stop family welfare services and facilities. The center was developed through a collaboration between organizations, including Hanwha Life Insurance Indonesia, the Department of Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (PPAPP), the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) and the Sayangi Tunas Cilik Foundation, a partner of Save the Children.
The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, together with the Head of the DKI Jakarta Family Welfare and Empowerment Mobilization Team (TP PKK), Fery Farhati, inaugurated PUSPA at the Jakarta Greet event on July 16, 2022 at the Jakarta International Stadium. The inauguration was also attended by Steven Namkoong, Chief Marketing Strategy Officer at Hanwha Life Insurance Indonesia, and Tuty Kusumawati, Head of the DKI Jakarta PPAPP Service.
The center is located on the eighth floor of the DKI Jakarta PPAPP Office in central Jakarta. With a minimalist interior design, the space is child and family friendly in addition to being accessible for those with disabilities. The space contains a variety of facilities for visitors, including a command center, digital content and podcast production studio, coworking space, children’s play area and family counseling room. The public can also access a variety of services including family information services, teleconsultation, training services for improving family welfare and resilience, education campaigns, and Jakpreneur (an entrepreneurial program of the DKI Provincial Government). PUSPA also allows the public to report acts of violence and get information on COVID-19.
“Hanwha Life completed construction and handed over the PUSPA facilities and infrastructure to the PPAPP Service and DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in the second quarter of 2022,” said Namkoong. “We hope that PUSPA CSR from Hanwha Life will create more family-friendly spaces for Jakarta while supporting various programs from the PPAPP Office, TP PKK and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. We hope the people of Jakarta can enjoy and maintain the PUSPA facilities and services.”
“We thank Hanwha Life for the construction of the PUSPA facilities and infrastructure,” said Kusumawati. “The PPAPP Service will continue to collaborate with various partners from the business world, NGOs, women's organizations, universities and professionals to support the operations and management of PUSPA activities and services."

- Hanwha Qcells America Hanwha Aerospace Joins Hands with Hanwha Qcells to Pursue Sustainability
As the need to combat climate change has become increasingly urgent, more individuals are beginning to demand companies promote sustainability. Recognizing the need for swift yet meaningful action, Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Qcells (a subsidiary of Hanwha Solutions) are pursuing sustainable solutions that further both aerospace and clean energy development while fighting climate change.
In line with this, Stephen Lindsey, Chief Technology Officer for Hanwha Aerospace, has partnered with Hanwha Qcells to deploy solar and energy storage systems at Hanwha Aerospace’s two plants in Connecticut, U.S. By the end of 2022, the ground-mounted solar systems will be up and running at the Cheshire and Newington plants, with 1 megawatt and 750 kilowatts on two acres of land at each site respectively. Along with solar energy production, Hanwha Qcells will install an energy storage system and energy management software that will serve as backup during power outages.
Hanwha Qcells will own and operate the solar and energy storage systems independently, which benefits Hanwha Aerospace as no upfront capital investment from the company was required. Hanwha Aerospace will pay Hanwha Qcells by the unit of energy, or kilowatt-hour, under the terms of a 20-year energy services contract. During the contract period, Hanwha is expected to reap 2 million USD in utility bill savings.
“We are able to lock in a portion of our power with the 20-year agreement. I can’t do that with the utility,” said Lindsey. In addition, in the event of a power outage, Hanwha Aerospace will still be able to provide reliable service to its customers and ensure steady operations. During outages, the solar and energy storage system – which collectively form a microgrid – will isolate from the main grid and generate electricity for critical systems such as data centers, computer servers, lighting and security at the manufacturing facilities. The microgrid is estimated to be able to run independently for about four hours.
The system will also provide additional benefits for Hanwha Qcells and local utility companies. When the solar and energy storage system is not being used during outages, it can deliver electricity to the main electricity grid, helping meet power needs during peak demand periods. This helps utility companies and their customers save money, while also generating income for Hanwha Qcells by increasing the amount of solar energy the company can provide to customers.
Overall, both the solar and energy storage systems are expected to prevent the release of more than 20,000 metric tons of carbon, equivalent to planting about 40,000 trees. The electricity will meet 20 percent of the company’s total electricity needs and will also be generated locally, meaning that it will not travel over long distribution lines and lose electrons along the way.
“Companies are transitioning to clean energy and providing benefits to the community,” said Christopher Brown, Senior Development Manager of Energy Solutions for Hanwha Qcells North America.
Installing solar and storage for commercial, industrial and governmental organizations can also have a large impact on the local community and the Earth. When companies install solar, they reduce the need for local utility companies to build additional and often expensive power plants, which in turn lowers costs for all customers.
By pursuing sustainable efforts and investing in clean energy solutions, companies can help lower their carbon footprint and make progress towards net zero initiatives. Hanwha too, is making strides towards lowering its carbon footprint, and the partnership between Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Qcells is one step of many to work to protect the Earth for future generations.
